Polperro, a thirteenth-century fishing village, nestles
in a rocky valley
15 miles south-west of Plymouth. The harbour remains
very much as it was in times past, with the addition of a harbour wall
and huge gates to prevent flooding. The harbour is
still a hive of activity, with the daily coming and
going of working fishing
boats: the harbour is self-supporting. Its history -
and Polperro's -
is told in the fascinating harbourside museum.
